Processed Food ~ A Major Cause of Obesity and Poor Health

Many highly processed foods have been altered to such a degree by heating, irridating and laden with chemical additives that they become food like substances or non foods. Big food manufacturers say their processed foods are making more food available at a lower price and that their foods are safe and healthy to eat. The real reason they produce these non foods is because they have a long shelf life and are highly profitable to produce.

Their advertising claims are very deceiving for a variety of reasons. First of all, they are not cheaper because we are really paying for the packaging and the advertising. Whole real food does not require packaging and lots of advertising to market it. These non foods are far from being healthy to eat and are a root cause of most diseases and certaintly of obesity. When you consider the high cost of disease care, these foods are very expensive.

The reason these foods have become so popular is because they seem cheaper up front, are more convenient and are cleverly advertised.

Processed Foods Are LackIng Nutrients

Whole foods are made up of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, enzymes, fiber and water in a balance that your body can digest, absorb and utilize the nutrients properly. Processed foods have been stripped of much of their nutrients and altered so that the body doesn’t even recognize it as food.

Processed Foods Are Addictive 

The big food processors have developed what they call the OPTIMIZER. This is the recipe of the exact amount of refined salt, sugars and fats that make you addicted to what you eat. Eating these highly concentrated foods can artificially stimulate dopamine (the pleasure neurotransmitter), which makes you feel good and makes you think they taste better. You then crave that pleasurable feeling again and again which is how an addiction begins.

Processed Foods Are Clearly Linked to Obesity 

When you are addicted to a food you obviously eat it on a regular basis and this leads to over eating. When you eat high calorie food loaded with processed fats and sugars but void in nutrients, it takes your body a longer time to feel satisfied. You see your body knows its getting calories but it also knows it needs more nutrients, so it keeps asking for more food. This tends to make you over eat. Many Americans are over fed and under nourished.

Eating Processed Foods Contribute to many other Ailments

Chemical additives such as preservatives, flavor enhancers, stabilizers, thickeners, colors, nitrites, plus low grade oils and sugars deplete your immune system, your endocrine system and the friendly bacteria in your gut. Many are known to be carcinogenic and can lead to poor digestion, depression, diabetes, allergies, infertility to name a few.

Many countries in Europe and Australia have banned marketing these highly processed junk foods to children on TV. America is lagging way behind on many important health issues. It’s no wonder America doesn’t even rank in the top 20 countries for overall quality of health.

It’s up to you to get educated and take responsibility for your health. A good start is to make whole organic foods the biggest part of your diet.
